Beneath the iconic “Hollywood” sign, Los Angeles sprawls out over 4,061 square miles (10,518 square kilometers). More than 80 neighborhoods spread up into the mountains, through bustling city blocks and down to the ocean. Wealth and glamour reign in upscale areas like Bel Air and Beverly Hills, while eccentricity rules in Venice Beach. In the hills high above the city, art and architecture are on display at the Getty Center. For science and history buffs, there’s astronomy at the Griffith Observatory, prehistoric remains at the La Brea Tar Pits and a naval monument at the USS Iowa. A carnival atmosphere pervades Santa Monica Pier, and life beneath the water is the ticket at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Day 5: Cabo San Lucas
Rated as one of Mexico’s top tourist destinations, Cabo as it is known locally is wonderful destination. Cruise visitors will find that Cabo is truly exquisite, the shopping is top class, and the beaches are pristine. Lover’s Beach is a great place to see the Arch of Cabo San Lucas at Land’s End, and this is one of the best places on earth to swim with dolphins at their world-renowned dolphin centre.

Puerto Quetzal is of limited interest to the cruise passenger, but consider a tour to La Antigua. The port itself has an interesting market which sells a variety of souvenirs, there are also several bars, restaurants and Mirimba Bands. The nearest town is San Jose which is about a mile from the port.

Colourful shops, street stalls and bars line the main street, stop for a drink with the locals at the pier. Relax in the sun with the refreshing snacks and drinks sold by beach vendors. Or take a trip to the Mangrove Forest to see crocodiles, herons and red snappers.

Unflinchingly urban, the capital rides the rails of chaos, with traffic jams, wayward taxis and casinos stacked between chic clubs and construction sites. A center of international banking and trade, the sultry skyline of shimmering glass and steel towers is reminiscent of Miami. In contrast, the colonial peninsula of Casco Viejo has become a hip neighborhood where cobblestones link boutique hotels with rooftop bars and crumbled ruins with pirate lore.

Cruising the Panama Canal will simply amaze you at the scale of this incredible undertaking. Winding your way through tropical rainforests and lush green forestry passing an abundance of tropical wildlife; for a truly unforgettable experience.

Aruba is an island surrounded by beautiful white beaches and glistening waters. The island is alive with Dutch heritage and history. The streets are lined with pastel painted houses in nearby Oranjestad, which also offers boutiques and malls for those wanting to shop. The beaches are stunning and offer amazing diving and snorkelling opportunities. The famous Natural Bridge can be found on the windward side of the island

Fort Lauderdale, the city prides itself on being the ‘Venice of America’ with more than 300 miles of navigable waterways. Fort Lauderdale boasts world-class theatres, museums, sightseeing and shopping. The city sits only 24 miles north of Miami, so you can enjoy the sights of South Beach or head further inland to the amazing Everglades and experience the airboat rides
